This documentary describes the archaeological dig carried out by the Research Group on Landscape Archaeology (GIAP) of the Catalan Institute of Classical Archaeology in the Eastern Pyrenees. We are invited to witness the day-to-day activities at the Coll de Morelles site (Meranges), the highest Roman site excavated in Spain and the Mediterranean, and learn abouta rare archaeological discipline: high-mountain archaeology
Between 2010 and 2011 there were excavations inside the Visigoth basilica of the Roman amphitheatre of Tarragona. Based on the data obtained during this intervention, the documentary offers an educational and diachronic vision of the different phases of construction and buildings that have succeeded one another inside this amphitheatre, which was built in the Roman era and has since been given many uses.
Archaeological surveys and investigations were recently carried out inside the cathedral of Tarragona, located at the highest point of the city’s old town. The purpose of this work was to locate the remains of a large Roman temple dedicated to the imperial cult. The Acropolis of Tarragona was occupied from the third century BC by the Romans, who set up a military camp to supervise operations against the Carthaginians during the Second Punic War. From the first century AD, it was converted into a sacred area to house a huge building dedicated to Emperor Augustus. This holy place was used until the fifth century, when it was dismantled.
