Gyptis: a greek Massaliota ship from the sixth century B.C.

In 1997, in excavations near the Vieux-Port of Marseille, the remains of a Greek ship from the Archaic period were found. Years later, in line with the research, a team of specialists built a similar boat, which was given the name Gyptis. It has the unique characteristic of a hull where the pieces are sewn together with rope, following the techniques in use 2600 years ago. They also reproduced even the smallest details and set sail in the ship, allowing them to obtain very valuable information.
