A
lot of museums in the United States are undergoing an ethical crisis
regarding trafficking in stolen antiquities. The reputation of museums
such as the Metropolitan and the Getty, amongst others, is being called
into question within the international art market. Marion Trae, who was a
curator responsible for antiquities, was accused of criminal conspiracy
in a trial that took place in Rome. “The Network” is a documentary that
predicts this crisis, focussing on a group of people connected with
each other in the smuggling of mainly Greek and Italian antiquities.
