The dolmen of Guadalperal is not alone in its liquid tomb. On the course itself of the River Tagus, other reservoirs have flooded more vestiges of the earliest cultures that built great architectural works… Five thousand years ago, or even before that, a very strong belief system drove its construction, the almost titanic effort to work, move and assemble its large stone parts. And in 1925, just a few decades ago, the impressive structure was excavated and brought to light. The dolmen was revealed as never before in the summer of 2019 and is inundated with visitors until the water returns. Experts tell us its intense story.
Hand imprints in rock art are perhaps one of the oldest forms of expression created by humans and their symbolic capacity. In this documentary, leading experts on Palaeolithic art tell us about their chronology, interpretation and conservation. At the same time, Palaeolithic lifeforms have been recreated based on archaeological evidence and experimental work in an attempt to return to this world of transition which dates back 40,000 years, where two fundamental species for our history coexisted: Neanderthals and Sapiens.
For linguists, the Visigoth slates have always been a challenge. For historians, they have provided a large quantity of data that allows us to find out more about this society in the High Middle Ages. The El Barrado Slate (Plasencia, Caceres) is one of these epigraphic testimonies from the Visigoth era, which usually contain documents of a legal and administrative nature.
During the 6th and 5th century B.C. the area of Attica in Greece was well known for its high quality pottery production, which was exported all over the Mediterranean in the form of luxury products. Proof of this long distance trade has even reached as far as Extremadura, where Greek pottery has appeared on Iron Age archaeological sites such as Capote or Cancho Roano. This documentary shows some of the remains found and the implications of the finds when it comes to studying trade and the role of the social elite.
